TOMOMI HANZAWA EXHIBITION Self: multiple presents

数年前から、祖母とお茶をして話をするのが毎日の習慣となっています。認知症と診断された祖母との会話は、現在も過去も、夢も現実も1つの時間として混ざり、循環しているようです。揺らぎながらも、確固たる彼女を見続ける中で、その存在について考えるようになっていきました。
私は「紙」をただの支持体ではなく、それ自体が人間の物語を内包する物体として捉えています。世界中で作り、使われ続けている紙は、基本の制作方法は似ているものの、実はとても個性的で、作られた場や時間、状況によって異なる造形物なのです。その上で私は「紙=作品」を作ることが存在や自己への考察につながっています。
今回展示する作品《Self》は、水に溶いた木材パルプ（紙の原料）を大きなスポイトで1滴ずつ垂らし重ね、プレスして「紙」にした作品です。その1滴を経過した時間の中にある出来事の断片、もしくは「今」そのものを固定化したものだと考え、それらを紙にし、またその紙を重ね並べることで、さまざまな「今」を絡み合わせていきます。時間は直線上に流れるものだと捉えられがちですが、自在に遊離し、現在に重層化していくことで、 自己の形成に影響しているのではないでしょうか。今回の展示では、祖母の記憶のように、過去も未来も、夢も現も「multiple presents/ 複数の今」 として絡み広がる様子を展示します。作品として広がる「紙」により、私たち自身、人について思考を深めることに繋げられたらと思います。
2023年11月 半澤友美
1988年生まれ。2010年女子美術大学立体アート学科卒業。2018年度ポーラ美術振興財団若手芸術家在外研修員としてアメリカ、メキシコ、カナダにて研修。現在主に東京都を拠点に活動。
紙漉きの手法を応用し作品を展開。紙を人間の物語が内包するオブジェクトと捉え、その構造やプロセスを辿ることで自己や人間を取り巻く環境や構造、その背景について考察している。
近年の主な展覧会に、国際現代芸術祭「中之条ビエンナーレ 2023」（中之条町/ 群馬、2023年）、「シン・ジャパニーズ・ペインティング」（ポーラ美術館/ 神奈川、2023年）、「皮膚で「見る」 The Eyes of Skin」（MARUEIDO JAPAN/東京、2023）、個展「Narrative Act」（DiEGO表参道/ 東京、2022年）、「PAPER:かみと現代美術」（熊本市現代美術館/ 熊本、2022年）、個展「Note」（MARUEIDO JAPAN/ 東京、2020年）、「ポーラ ミュージアム アネックス展2020-真正と発気-」（ポーラ ミュージアム アネックス/ 東京、2020年）、個展「半澤友美 The Histories of the Self」（ポーラ美術館 アトリウムギャラリー/ 神奈川、2019年）などがある。
Tomomi Hanzawa
Born 1988 in Tochigi. Lives and works in Tokyo. B.F.A., Sculpture Course, Joshibi University of art and design in 2010. Recipient of a Pola Art Foundation Grant for Overseas Study by Young Artists in 2018. She was a visiting artist and took the training in the paper studio in the SouthWest School of Art in San Antonio, Texas ,and She researched about papermaking in some parts of United States, Mexico and Canada.
In her work with paper, she considers identity and the state of the self. Paper always gives her an incentive. Paper is the structure of intertwined fibers. There is a fact that paper has been made in various places around the world in different ways according to the environment and it has been developed for various purposes. Considering this fact, we can say that paper itself can be already considered as an object including our human story in itself. She unravels the story and superimpose it with "now" by tracing the paper structure and process, and questioning its origins.
